Planning for the New Overtime Rule

Sep 16, 2019, 3:16 PM

(From SHRM) Employers would do well to prepare for the FLSA's new federal overtime rule, which is expected to roll out soon, according to legal experts. The Department of Labor has not yet announced the exact figure of the new salary threshold nor its effective date, but employers can begin pulling data for exempt workers who are earning close to the proposed salary cutoff, suggests Caroline Brown, an attorney with Fisher Phillips law firm. Other suggestions include reviewing data for exempt workers earning $37,000 or less and weighing the cost of raising employee salaries above the new threshold against the cost of reclassifying employees as nonexempt and paying overtime.
