(from Inside Higher Ed) Despite increased discounting, private colleges are expected to see median net tuition grow by 2.8 percent in the current academic year, nearly double the rate of increase for public institutions, according to Moody's Investors Service. Nearly a fifth (19 percent) of the private institutions Moody's rates reported discounting tuition for first-year students between 60 and 80 percent. "Rising first-year tuition discounting indicates that the total discount rate will continue to rise beyond fiscal 2019," Moody's reported. A year ago, only 13 percent of the same group of schools reported such high discounting.
