Private College Tuition Discounting Rises Again

(from NACUBO) At private, nonprofit universities, tuition discounting and undergraduate enrollment are on the rise, according to the 2023 NACUBO Tuition Discounting Study. The 325 private, nonprofit participating colleges and universities reported an estimated 56.1% average institutional tuition discount rate for first-time, full-time, first-year students in academic year (AY) 2023-24 and 51.9% for all undergraduates – both new highs. By providing grants, fellowships, and scholarships, these institutions forgo more than half the revenue they would collect if they charged all students the tuition and fee sticker price.
