Jun 10, 2021, 7:04 PM

(from Inside Higher Ed) Some universities are raising their minimum wages to $15. This trend follows in the wake of the Fight for $15 campaign launched in 2012 to raise the wages of service workers and a school year with higher pressures from the pandemic and social justice movements. An increasing number of students have begun discussing treatment of lower-wage staff as a racial justice issue. At many institutions, the nonadministrative staff is made up of a majority people of color. When discussing their decisions, universities and presidents themselves underline their responsibility as a large employer to do right by those who work for them.
