A California college last month paid $28,000 to hackers in a widening pattern of cyberattacks against educational institutions, which some security experts say are vulnerable to such attacks. Hackers had encrypted the electronic files of Los Angeles Valley College and demanded the "ransom" to provide the "key" needed to unlock the files. Net Assets recently documented a
similar attack against an independent school, along with strategies for mitigating cyber risks.
