(from the THE Journal) While ransomware attacks overall fell 22% last year and fell by half in the United States, schools saw an opposite trend: attacks targeting K–12 schools worldwide last year grew 827% over 2021, according to SonicWall 2023 Cyber Threat Report. The biggest growth vectors targeting education were encrypted attacks, or malware over HTTPs, rising 411%, and as malware targeting Internet of Things or connected smart devices, which rose 169%. Increased U.S. surveillance of cyber crime and mitigation measures taken by companies likely led to the overall decrease.
