(From The CPA Journal) Generation Z is beginning to enter the workforce, bringing with it a demographic shift that will affect how business professionals recruit and retain new accounting talent. To better understand how Gen Z feels about the accounting profession, The CPA Journal conducted a survey among Gen Z high school students from schools with large minority populations. The students surveyed were asked identical questions before and after being shown information on accounting careers. Overall, the survey results show only limited interest in accounting as a college major and career path among respondents. However, those same students showed markedly higher interest after they were provided accurate information about accounting careers. Related to this, the profession should continue to promote accounting as a diverse and inclusion work environment, suggests researchers.
