Message boards on residence-hall doors are an old tradition in boarding schools, but what happens when they, too, become conduits for bullying? Effective with next school year, Michigan State University will no longer allow students to hang whiteboards outside their rooms after accusations involving racial slurs, among other incidents. Whiteboards "had become more of a distraction than a helpful tool," said Kat Cooper, MSU residential services communications director. "We're going to encourage students to connect online."
