Research Links Tablets and Lower Reading Scores

(From Hechinger Report) Recent evidence indicates that technology in schools isn’t boosting student achievement. The Reboot Foundation has shown a negative tie between the use of tablets in schools and fourth- and eighth-grade reading scores. The correlation was true across school income levels. Meanwhile, some types of computer use among older students may be beneficial — math scores didn’t deteriorate as much as computer usage increased. While ultimate outcomes are unclear, the research may prompt schools to pay more attention to how they are using technology.
