(from CUPA-HR) High-potential employees have "a drive to excel; the capacity to scan for new ideas, the cognitive capability to absorb them and the common sense to translate that [into action]; an enterprising spirit; and a knack for being in the right place at the right time," according to human resources researchers. High-potential employees are not to be confused with high-performing employees, who may excel in their current role but not necessarily in leadership positions. To retain high-potential employees, give them opportunities for growth, decision-making authority, reward and recognize them, and seek out their opinion.
