(from Inside Higher Ed) To attract more students with amenities while keeping costs low, some universities have launched a concierge service. New Mexico State University, for example, determined the service would be more affordable than updating campus buildings. Its program offers students everything from help booking vacations to doing their laundry. A vendor, Sodexo, provides the service, and the company said it intends to expand to other institutions. The program is funded through partnerships with outside companies and a fee or commission on services students obtain through the concierge. Both students and parents have loved the service, said the assistant vice president of auxiliary services at NMSU.
