(From NPR) While the majority of Americans support the mandates, back-to-school confrontations across the U.S. have have disrupted and derailed education board meetings nationwide this summer as local officials have sought to allow in-person learning despite a new wave of Covid-19 cases powered by the delta variant of the coronavirus. In states such as Pennsylvania and Nevada, for instance, law enforcement officials have been called in to curb angry protesters at school board meetings. In one school district in Colorado, sheriff's deputies were called to stand outside a few schools on the first day of classes to make sure protests didn't disrupt learning. And in Salt Lake City, protesters who disrupted a school board meeting this year are now facing criminal charges.
