(from The Sacramento Bee) California Democrats, Republicans and independents alike show support for offering tax credits or vouchers so low-income families can send their children to independent or religious schools, according to a recent survey. Although such programs have been divisive in California in the past, 55 percent of Californians surveyed backed such a plan. Respondents were far less supportive of offering tax credits or vouchers to all families regardless of income.
Another statewide survey earlier this year found even more support among Californians for giving parents tax-funded vouchers to use at any school — 60 percent of all adults, and 66 percent of public school parents.
