(from The Post and Courier) Enrollment in U.S. private schools increased 7 percent nationally, to just over 4.9 million, between 2013 and 2015, according to the 2015-2016 survey by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. That's 325,000 more private school students than in 2013 and 410,000 more than 2011. A report from South Carolina points to increasing enrollment at about 65 percent of the 124 member schools in the state's Independent Schools Association. One school featured, NBOA member Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, started this academic year with 975 students, the most ever in the school's 150-year history and 12 percent above opening day 2008, just before the recession triggered broad enrollment retreats at many schools nationally.
