Small College's Unlikely Comeback

(from Nonprofit Quarterly) Trustees of Sweet Briar College, a small liberal arts institution in rural Virginia, voted to close the college in 2015, but a fierce alumni response prevented the shuttering. This year, enrollment increased 42 percent and Sweet Briar has been ranked one the most innovative colleges in the country. What changed? The college redeveloped the curriculum around its strengths, reduced tuition to make the true cost more transparent and restructured the budget to grow the administration as enrollment increases over time.
