(From Edweek) The wide availability of vaccines and the apparent cresting of a steep wave of new virus cases has led leaders in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey and Oregon to call for ending universal school mask requirements as early as Feb. 28. Several other states are soon set to consider whether to extend their existing mandates or to allow them to expire. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still recommends all students and adults age 2 and older wear face coverings in schools, both to protect themselves and to limit the risk of transmission.

(From The 74 Million) Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut recently announced new guidance recommending a pivot away from individualized contact tracing in schools. Education officials say contact tracing puts a “now-impossible workload” on school districts, as the omicron variant "spreads more quickly than contacts can be traced." In lieu of contact tracing, health experts recommend that schools use strategies like symptom monitoring and home test kits for those worried that they may be sick.
