(From Harvard Business Review) Leaving an organization doesn’t have to be seen as the end of the relationship with a former employee. Organizational leadership expert Rebecca Zucker offered these strategies:
- Destigmatize leaving; ongoing career conversations throughout the employee journey, not just at departure, help normalize leaving the organization.
- Create a good off-boarding experience and consider ways that you can facilitate a departing employee's access to various resources the organization offers.
- Be explicit that the door is open if things don't work out at their new job or after they gain further experience elsewhere.
- Maintain "alumni communications" with former employees by sharing organization and people news in a newsletter.
