(from Hogan Lovells) On Friday, June 26, the Department of Labor issued clarification guidance regarding the availability of Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) leave.  Specifically, the DOL stated that FFCRA leave is equally available for summer camps, summer enrichment programs or other summer programs as it was available for day cares or schools. The requirements for employees remains the same.

(from Inside Higher Ed) New guidance issued Monday, July 6, by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security prohibits international students from returning to or remaining in the U.S. this fall if the colleges they attend adopt online-only instruction models. A growing number of colleges have announced that they will reopen their campuses in the fall but conduct classes online. The rule makes an exception for students enrolled at colleges using a hybrid model. Colleges are expected to push back against the new rule, which they see causing undue stress for international students and colleges that enroll them.

(from Knowledge @ Wharton) During a time of crisis, the relationships a CFO builds with colleagues are more important than ever. These relationships go up, out, across and down their organizations.

  • Up: Effective CFOs anticipate the needs of their CEOs and push back against overly rosy projections. These CFOs take the initiative to run multiple scenarios, recognizing that the level of uncertainty and complexity today far exceeds that of prior downturns.
  • Out: CFOs also need to ramp up communication of issues and leading indicators with boards so they can help board members understand when they may need to change course.
  • Across: CFOs should also invest in relationships with their peers. They need a sounding board to think through creative and practical solutions for thorny operating and commercial challenges.
  • Down: Thoughtful CFOs take the time to show compassion to finance staff who are adjusting to the new realities of working from home.
