(from EdSurge) U.S. K-12 computer science education programs will receive more than $300 million in grants from major technology giants over the next five years. Amazon, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Salesforce have each committed $50 million, and companies including Lockheed Martin and General Motors will provide millions more, all in an effort to equip students to meet rising demand for computer science skills and knowledge. More than 500,000 computing jobs are vacant in the U.S., according to Code.org, yet less than half of U.S. schools offer computer science classes.
