(From The 74 Million) With most schools closed for winter break between now and Jan. 1, 2020, school leaders may be thinking about how their time off policies pay respect to religious or cultural holidays. To ensure everyone feels valued and appreciated in today’s increasingly multicultural environment, it’s more important than ever to rethink current strategies for excused time off, argued education thought leader Aline Adams. Adams proposed schools should adopt 10 "personal days" of excused absenses per student a year. Families could use them one or two at a time or save up for a longer holiday such as month-long Ramadan.
