(From LinkedIn Learning) Managing workplace conflict is an integral part of being a leader. Rather than running from it, school leaders who embrace conflict can better navigate relationships in the workplace and connect with colleagues at all levels, according author and entrepreneur Simon T. Bailey. Here are three strategies:
- Recognize and mitigate negative team conflict. Start by assessing each person's approach to problem solving and don't be afraid to adjust teams as needed.
- Engage opposing opinions in a civil way. Sometimes, intentionally stirring up conflict can encourage team people to tap into their passion and fight for their ideas.
- Build relationships with your critics. By soliciting feedback and asking questions, leaders can better understand critics' perspective, use critiques to their advantage and open the door to ongoing productive dialogue.
