Tips for Becoming More Inclusive of Neurodivergent Employees

(From Journal of Accountancy) HR and business leaders have long been striving to diversify workforces, yet people with disabilities don't always play a central role in related discussions. Experts at the Journal of Accountancy shared the following tips for becoming more inclusive of autistic and neurodiverse employees:

  • Understand what accommodations may be available under the ADA. 
  • Embrace differences by suggesting accommodations like providing written instructions, sending PowerPoint slides before meetings, and allowing employees to work from home to limit disruptions and stressful social interactions.
  • Start with the interview process by allowing candidates to submit written answers rather than requiring multiple rounds of face-to-face interviews.
