(from the Telegraph) Private schools in the United Kingdom are planning to launch a publicity campaign to rebrand their image following the "Abolish Eton" movement, which sought to strip private schools of their charitable tax status and other tax privileges. The movement's backers are angry with perceived inequities, particularly the fact that political leaders tend to be educated at private schools. The campaign, sponsored by the Independent Schools Council (ISC), will focus on highlighting private schools' collaboration with local public (state-run) schools, in an attempt to convince politicians that private schools bring benefits beyond their own students. ISC has hired a corporate communications firm with experience running political campaigns to lead the effort.
