(from the Washington Post) While results are still preliminary and there is much to be learned, a new study shows the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine works against a key mutation found in new, fast-spreading coronavirus variants first discovered in the United Kingdom and South Africa, and now spreading across the globe. The finding, published late Thursday night, but not yet peer-reviewed, bolsters many scientists’ expectations that the immune response triggered by vaccines will be broad enough to counter the new, highly contagious variants. More experiments and direct tests of both variants in the next few weeks will bring greater clarity.
(from the 74 Million) Parents say making a COVID-19 vaccine available to the public is “absolutely necessary” for them to feel safe returning their children to classrooms, and a majority (60%) will have their kids vaccinated, according to a new poll by the National Parents Union. But only 30% of those surveyed will inoculate their kids right away, and one-fourth of families won’t do so at all. Three-fourth of parents who are Democrats say they will have their children vaccinated, versus 56 percent of Republicans and 51 percent of political independents, the December survey found.
