What's Next for the ACA? Tweaks to Excise Tax, Reporting Requirements

Mar 28, 2017, 3:55 PM

Following last Friday's failure to pass the Republican-driven AHCA, also known as "Trumpcare" or "Ryancare," the ACA or "Obamacare" remains the law of the land, and employers with more than 50 employees must continue to comply with its mandates. Although a major overhaul of the healthcare bill will not reach Congress anytime soon, Congress is likely to tweak the bill. Legislators may focus on repealing the ACA excise tax on high-value employer-sponsored plans, easing reporting requirements and limiting HSAs and FSAs. They may also target the employer tax deduction for health care benefits in upcoming tax reform proposals.
