White Students Have An Advantage In College Admissions, Study Finds

Dec 6, 2021, 8:40 PM

(From Inside Higher Ed) More than two-thirds of white high school students say they rely on family and friends for help with college admissions. By contrast, only 38% of Black students say their families give them admissions advice, according to a new study by Art & Science Group, which advises colleges on their enrollment strategies. The study, which surveyed over 700 students from both public and private schools, showed white and Asian students plan to apply to more colleges (four) than other students. White students were more likely than others to have gone on campus tours. The study's authors say the differences point to more sophistication about applying to college, not to better preparation for college.
