Women Fill 1/3 Leadership Roles in Schools

Mar 7, 2018, 3:53 PM

(from ISM) Women comprise 30 percent nationally of leadership roles in schools, including school board members, principals, superintendents and chief state education officers, according to research reported by ISM. Yet female teachers comprise an estimated 75 percent of all teachers nationally. Women leaders are better represented among the top performing elementary, middle and high schools in the U.S. ... Across all sectors in the U.S., women are outperforming men, but are often not earning salaries or obtaining titles that reflect their high performance. The research refutes the assumption that women are underrepresented in leadership roles because they prefer less demanding or time-consuming positions to accommodate their families or lifestyle.
