How's the gender composition on your school's board of trustees? If women hold more than one in five of those seats, you're ahead of most large U.S. companies not only in gender parity, but possibly also in innovation and net revenue gains. Women hold just 20 percent of board seats among large, publicly held companies, according to search firm Egon Zehnder. Research finds that adding women to boards can result in companies being more innovative, enjoying greater growth in net revenue margins and experiencing higher attendance at board meetings. Women surveyed reported that one problem was that search committees typically don't look beyond their networks -- and those networks generally don't include women.
