WHO WE ARE

NBOA is dedicated to developing, delivering and promoting best business practices to advance independent schools. The association has grown from 23 founding schools in 1998 to 1,600 members from the U.S., Canada, Mexico and 23 other countries around the globe. Known today as NBOA: Business Leadership for Independent Schools, we serve every role impacting school business. The association offers member schools a full range of live events, online webinars, courses and workshops, publications, web resources and toolkits, original research and data analysis among other services to the independent school community.

OUR HISTORY

NBOA Past Logos
A tenacious group of independent school business leaders founded the National Business Officers Association in 1998 to create a national network for themselves and their peers beyond existing regional networks. Business officer, which refers to the business leader in an educational or religious organization, was a more widely understood term at that time. Today NBOA serves hundreds of members outside the U.S. and anyone in independent schools who touches school business, and thus in 2024 pivoted to using NBOA: Business Leadership for Independent Schools. However, the spirit behind our legal name remains: to connect business leaders across diverse geographies.
