Business officers, human resources professionals, and board members play a critical role in ensuring the success of a head of school transition at independent schools. Carefully crafting, preparing, and executing a transition plan includes transparent discussions with various stakeholders, setting priorities, and understanding areas of sensitivity or risk exposure.  A transition plan can help the incoming head understand and acclimate to the school's culture and community and provide the necessary framework to measure objectives. In this session, school leaders will learn the essential components and considerations in creating a thoughtful transition plan.

Janice provides legal counsel and strategic guidance to independent schools on a broad range of legal issues and works collaboratively with business officers, board members, human resources professionals, and heads of schools to advance the mission, priorities, and culture of institutions while meeting business needs and mitigating potential liability. Janice develops, drafts and revises the various contracts, policies and other documents utilized by independent schools, including employment, enrollment and contractor agreements. She advises on the proper use of technology and social media, wage and hour compliance, employee and student discipline, admissions, investment and financial issues, discrimination and leave issues, performance evaluation design, and employee termination. She conducts investigations involving students, employees, and other members of the school community.

Loretta joined Trinity School in 1999 as the After School Director and then as the Benefits and Payroll Coordinator. In 2011, Loretta became Trinity School's first Director of Human Resources. Before joining Trinity, Loretta worked as a paralegal in the banking industry. Loretta earned her B.A. in legal studies from the University of Massachusetts. In 2012 she earned her M.S. in human resources development from Villanova University. Loretta holds SHRM-SCP and SPHR certifications.
