Payroll Best Practices for Independent Schools

In this one-week course, participants will learn about payroll procedures and best practices for efficiency and effectiveness as well as for compliance with U.S. federal law. Participants will discover how employee classifications affect pay for travel and overnight shifts and when overtime wages are mandated. Multiple ways to calculate overtime are reviewed, as well as the complex considerations of issuing final paychecks to 10-month employees who leave mid-year. Learn about best practices for process documentation and how to adjust year-end W2s without raising red flags with the IRS.

This course includes asynchronous instruction available daily through videos, reading and online discussion topics. Participants should plan to reserve 1-2 hours daily for the course in order to maximize learning. A bonus live one-hour study session is open to all participants on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. ET.

This course is offered in partnership with One Schoolhouse.
