Human resources management has evolved in schools to entail much more than compliance with personnel laws. From strategic planning and change management to organizational development, HR professionals are engaging school leadership in strategic conversations around the recruitment, retention, resource allocation and success of the school's personnel. This four-week course provides a strong understanding of organizational design, leadership and motivation theory and strategic planning tools. Participants will learn how to perform a strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis, discuss succession planning strategy, and learn about the benefits of human resources inventories. Each week includes practice exercises intended to support HR professionals in the strategic analysis of their department's work and to bring forward-thinking human resource management to their school. Participants will benefit from discussions with peers and the facilitator about the larger, strategic role of HR and how HR professionals can position their personnel management acumen to drive the school's mission forward.
