This one-week intensive class presents the basics of wage and hour law in the United States and expands upon the complexities of legal compliance in a school setting. This course includes asynchronous instruction available daily through videos, reading and discussion boards. All participants are invited to join a live one-hour study session on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. ET. Participants should plan to reserve 1-2 hours daily for the course to maximize learning.
This course is offered in partnership with One Schoolhouse.
Participants will discuss federal wage laws, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); contracting employees and standard pay practices, including requirements for overtime and lump-sum salaries; and specific school positions that are often difficult to assess for FLSA such as coaches, dorm parents and the head's executive assistant. They will also learn about on-call rules and other issues unique to independent schools. Participants are invited to join a live hour-long study session on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. ET and walk through case studies with the instructor.
